3 + 3 = 5 by Oskar Pollack and Manuel Rugo at Aula, Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, from 08/09/2024 to 19/09/2024.
3 + 3 = 5 is a work by Oskar Pollack and Manuel Rugo that was staged as an exhibition in the Aula of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. The project derives its formal line from art-historical mediums and forms of their display in museums, such as a 14-meter-long frieze mounted on glass windows or anatomical wax models. This is layered with an interest in superficiality, complexities, and events arising from the relation between media and violence, abstracted into the motives and objects on display. The creation of images is explored, noting their primarily affective and effective uses today, with a coyote fur hat and the tip of a spear referencing the storming of the U.S. Capitol by far-right groups on January 6, 2021. The objects in the exhibition emphasize surface treatments and question the contemporary media landscape through digital techniques, like decals, suggesting parallels between traditional and modern media.
