“Resonance” at Kunstraum Steiermark, Vienna
Escape. Resonance by Lena Baloch, Michael Fanta, Susanna Hofer, Lisa Reiter, Nina Schuiki, Katharina Pichler, Nathalie Koger, Ulrich A. Reiterer, Eva-Maria Jocham, and Miriam Schmid, curated by Jakob Kolb, at Kunstraum Steiermark, Vienna Contemporary 2024, from 12/09/2024 to 15/09/2024.
In an attention economy, resonance appears to be the most valuable good: Rather than resembling a harmonious interplay, it functions as a broad public echo that does not have to last long, and the quality of which is of little importance – what counts is quantity. How can we break free from this dynamic without renouncing it entirely, without escapism or a Biedermeier renaissance, without abandoning all relevance? How can we escape such a resonance but remain (politically) active? Escape. Resonance assembles works by ten artists from Styria who explore the tension amidst these very issues.
