Fakewhale Solo Series presents Flowing Through Form by 0009
On Wednesday, October 30th, Fakewhale proudly presents “Flowing Through Form”, a Fakewhale Solo Series release by 0009.
“Flowing Through Form” reinterprets industrial icons as conduits of dynamic motion, where the rigid structures of trains dissolve into fluid streams, highlighting the potential for flexibility and creativity even within the confines of structured environments.
Exploring Fluid Dynamics Within Industrial Forms
Born in 1984, American artist and designer Chris Maestas, artistically known as 0009, traces his creative origins to the urban landscapes of Los Angeles, where he found early inspiration as a graffiti writer and skateboarder during the vibrant 1990s. His journey through the energetic realms of graffiti art and street culture imbues his work with a distinctive disruptive and rebellious spirit. 0009 graduated in 2013 from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, specializing in Automotive Design/Industrial Design, a background that influences and informs his multidimensional approach to art.
Currently, 0009 embraces a variety of mediums, from acrylic and oil-based enamel to spray paint and digital formats. His pivot to generative AI processes marks a bold exploration of creativity, where traditional urban aesthetics blend seamlessly with cutting-edge technology. This fusion is powerfully expressed in his digital artworks, which reimagine familiar city scenes through a lens of punk and avant-garde influences, now adapted for the digital age.
In “Flowing Through Form,” 0009 reimagines the essence of industrial constructs, presenting a series where mechanical certainties are fluidly disrupted. Through his art, trains – once mere emblems of relentless progress – are reenvisioned as dynamic entities that challenge our perceptions of movement and static reality. Here, the solid steel of locomotives defies its inherent rigidity, adopting fluid forms that challenge the conventional predictability of industrial design.
Ultimately, this series establishes a visual language that speaks to the core of our interactions with built environments. It proposes a world where the solid frameworks of urban life become canvases for personal and collective reinterpretation, urging viewers to visualize a landscape where creative potential can be found in the most unexpected places.
As 0009 puts in his own words, “It’s my way of showing that even in structured spaces, there’s room for flexibility and creativity — it’s all about how you choose to see it.”
