Fakewhale Solo Series presents ERRR by Qubibi

On Wednesday, October 16th, Fakewhale proudly presents “ERRR”, a Fakewhale Solo Series release by qubibi.

“ERRR” is an exploration of the beauty found in imperfection, encapsulating the ‘errors’ that emerge during digital experimentation. Drawing from his project ‘mimizu’, in this series these ‘errors’ are elevated from mere mishaps to essential elements, unveiling the intrinsic beauty and spontaneity of the creative process itself.

ERRR: Embracing The Imperfection INTRINSIC TO Creation

qubibi, a Japanese artist, crafts abstract, colorful patterns through a blend of painting and digital compositions, drawing inspiration from his life experiences. His name – a playful nod to the Japanese words for ‘neck’ and ‘beauty’ – reflects his artistic philosophy: creating works that exist in the interstitial spaces between artist and audience, creation and perception, tangible and abstract.

In his generative art, a central facet of his practice, qubibi strikes a balance between deliberate design and serendipitous discovery. Starting with basic elements like borders in Photoshop, he allows his designs to evolve in unexpected ways, often culminating in patterns that are reminiscent of natural phenomena. This process embodies his approach to art: rejecting a fixed vision in favor of embracing the spontaneous and unforeseen. It is in this dance between design and chance, intention and accident, where qubibi’s art truly takes shape.

qubibi has showcased these creations in exhibitions globally. Since 2010, he has been honing a unique algorithm that began with the project “hello world,” prominently featured in his 2018 solo exhibition at MuDA (Museum of Digital Art) in Zurich. For over a decade, he has refined this algorithm through projects like “mimizu” and “wiwizn”, presented on various NFT platforms.

qubibi’s “ERRR” series emerges as a provocative extension of his long-standing ‘mimizu’ project, where he has been exploring the boundaries between algorithmically-generated borders and the organic flow of digital errors. This series deepens his examination of the interplay between controlled design and digital spontaneity.

“ERRR” confronts the concept of imperfection, not merely as an inevitable aspect of digital art but as an essential component of artistic exploration. By elevating digital ‘errors’ to pivotal elements of each piece’s narrative, the series reflects the spontaneity and unpredictability of life – drawing parallels between the lifecycle of natural forms and the erratic behavior of digital creations.

Each piece marks a convergence of intention and accident, where qubibi sets the initial conditions, but ultimately allows the algorithm to autonomously direct the evolution, yielding a continuously surprising and evolving collection.
