Annibale Siconolfi: A Confluence of Technology, Nature and Architectural Vision
Annibale Siconolfi also known as Inward is an Italian artist, architect and sound designer who has always experimented with fields ranging from art, sound, and architecture to 3D techniques — all elements that now combine within colossal cityscapes that embrace the underlying principles of architecture while exploring the tensions between a technologically advanced future and the return of nature.
Bridging Passions: Annibale Siconolfi’s Artistic Journey
Born in Italy, Annibale Siconolfi embarked on his creative journey early on, indulging in drawing and music since his childhood. A few years later, as an adolescent, he also became fascinated by sound design, leading to a brief career in music production.
His artistic trajectory took a crucial turn when he chose to pursue his university degree in architecture in Rome. Here, the ancient ruins, the pulse of the city, and the teachings of renowned architects like Le Corbusier, F.L. Wright, Louis Etienne Boullée, and Antonio Sant’Elia, shaped his aesthetic sensibilities.
As a result of these architectural studies, Annibale Siconolfi eventually ventured into the realm of digital 3D art, a medium where he could channel his multifaceted learnings. In particular, he recalls how encountering the work of digital artist Beeple served as inspiration and sparked his interest in cryptoart, marking another significant turning point in his artistic journey.
On January 8th, 2021, he minted his first work, “Re-Cities” on SuperRare.
Futuristic Cityscapes: Inside Annibale Siconolfi’s Creative Process
Annibale Siconolfi gives life to his visions and passion for architecture through an art characterized by complex 3D modeling of futuristic cities and landscapes, where the coexistence of Nature and Technology predominate and give life to futuristic, mysterious and eternal cities.
These cities are emblematic of human social interaction at its zenith. In fact, each city is likened to a complex organism with humans as its lifeblood—an analogy he meticulously explores from the perspectives of their origins, evolution, and future.
Furthermore, these cities echo a recurring theme in his works: the relationship between Nature and the City.
He employs dystopian and utopian projections of future cities to evoke the viewer’s awareness and consciousness, as the cities, while grandiose in size and detail, represent pulsating social entities — some works capturing the extreme outcomes of today’s global issues, while others presenting more serene cities and landscapes of the future, inviting observers to peacefully lose themselves.
Annibale Siconolfi’s creative process always finds inspiration in his own visions, which are later subject to an experimental phase combined with his style that can be described as futuristic, dystopic, and surreal.
Equipped with tools such as Cinema4D, Annibale Siconolfi’s creative process is a blend of vision and experimentation. When working on his creations, he usually starts with an idea, a snapshot of his everyday experiences or dreams, then transforms it into a digital image, often requiring him to develop new techniques.
From minting his first work, “Re-Cities” in January 2021, Annibale Siconolfi’s art has gained significant momentum in the cryptoart scene. Among his notable works and accomplishments it is worth mentioning “The Hidden City” (May 2021), which gained notable traction and exposure at exhibitions worldwide. Another significant piece, “Hollow” (June 2021), presents a future where urban architecture may have to be completely reimagined to accommodate overpopulation. Added to “Drive Me” (November 2021) and “Moving Cities” (February 2022), other prominent works, each pushing the boundaries of his vision.
Architectural Ripples: The Wider Influence of Annibale Siconolfi’s Art
Even though Annibale Siconolfi focuses primarily on his art, his work has nevertheless generated considerable interest within architectural circles, sparking public debate and fostering collaborations. It has also resulted in the creation of virtual exhibitions and museums in the metaverse, thereby propelling his art into unprecedented dimensions.
Annibale Siconolfi aspires to an ambitious dream project: to erect a fully explorable 3D city from the ground up. This initiative further blurs the boundaries between virtual and physical realities and consistently entices viewers to explore visions of the future—visions that exist somewhere between the unsettling and the hopeful.
The same way, his creations surpass the traditional definition of art. Throughout each work, we are in fact confronted with self-contained worlds overflowing with stories yet to be told, asking us to reflect on our role in the ongoing evolution of our cities and the planet as a whole.
