In conversation with Sabato
During this episode of Fakewhale Live, Jesse Draxler enters into a discussion with visual artist Sabato about his background, art, and work.
Sabato was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but immigrated to the United States when he was a baby. He grew up in Miami, Florida, and went to college in Western Massachusetts, where he has been living since — as an undocumented immigrant, he had difficulty finding a job after graduating, thus turning to photography and video production, which eventually led to his interest in glitch art.
In particular, they chat about how in 2011, Sabato became drawn to glitch art because of its punk element, having discovered it through a friend’s memory card that was glitching jpegs and how he then explored jpeg files and realized he could do this himself with a hexadecimal code editor.
Last but not least, they incorporate music into the conversation, highlighting Sabato’s special collaboration with a musician on a project.
