In conversation with Nicolas Sassoon

In this episode of Fakewhale Live, host Jesse Draxler interviews Nicholas Sassoon, a digital artist originally from France, currently living in Vancouver, Canada.

With over 15 years of experience in digital art, Sassoon creates contemporary art, as well as visual art for music festivals, fashion, and architecture. NFTs have become an integral part of his art practice since he minted his first one in February 2021.

Sassoon shares how his work is largely screen-based, exploring the optical illusions and shifting visual experiences that screens can provide. The artist’s focus on optical art, including the Moiré phenomenon, has led to the creation of interesting interference patterns in their pieces.

But the conversation also delves into the era of Tumblr in the late 2000s to early 2010s and the birth of aesthetic as a concept associated with visual hedonism.

Towards the end of the conversation, both Jesse and Sassoon discuss their preferences for music, and what they prefer listening to while working.

Lastly, Sassoon explains how he approaches his work by connecting abstraction with nature or architecture in order to make it more meaningful and visually pleasing.
